The GMC Sierra 1500 has been named the 2016 Texas Truck Showdown Towing Champion in a comprehensive test organized by Cars.com, PickupTrucks.com, and MrTruck.com, all respected resources for all things automotive.
They pit six of the industry’s top pickup trucks in a grueling head-to-head competition to find out which of them was the best shopping pick for customers seeking a towing machine.
“We pulled trailers, we ran at and above full payload, we did fuel-economy testing with 10,000-pound trailers, and we let our truck-loving judges dig through each pickup with a magnifying glass and micrometer,” said the editors at PickupTrucks.com.
In addition to the GMC Sierra 1500 SLT, the editors tested the Ford F-150 Lariat, Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn, Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ.
The Sierra 1500 SLT, equipped with the available 6.2-liter V8 engine, was not only the most powerful truck there with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque but also the most fuel efficient when hooked up to a trailer.
